Experience the best of Tasmania’s East Coast on a small-group day tour from Hobart, exploring Freycinet National Park, Wineglass Bay and the historic town of Richmond.

Shortly after leaving Hobart, we make our first stop at a local bakery where we can enjoy coffee, breakfast snacks and purchase a picnic lunch for later in the day. The journey proceeds through the Tasmanian countryside to the East Coast, where we follow the Prosser River into Orford and stop at Raspins Beach. This vantage point allows you to stretch your legs and take in views of the untamed Maria Island while your guide shares a story or two about its colourful past. Our tour continues along the stunning, pristine coastline to the seaside village of Swansea where, across Great Oyster Bay, we capture our first glimpses of the Mountain ranges of the Freycinet Peninsula.

As we arrive at the Freycinet National Park and pass through the quaint village of Coles Bay we are greeted with spectacular views of the Hazards Mountain range. Just beyond these beautiful pink granite mountains lies our breath taking destination, the secluded Wineglass Bay.

Your guide will accompany you on the moderate, 30 to 40-minute hike to the Wineglass Bay Lookout. This journey is just as beautiful as the destination with the opportunity to meet local wildlife and discover stunning granite boulder formations. We pause halfway to catch our breath and enjoy views back towards Coles Bay over Great Oyster Bay before we begin the final ascent to the Wineglass Bay lookout.

The lookout has several vantage points from which to enjoy views of the turquoise blue bay, the pristine white sands of Wineglass Bay Beach and the remainder of the Freycinet peninsula beyond. Here, we have plenty of time to relax and of course, take as many photos as possible. We then head back down together as a group, a great opportunity to chat and share thoughts on your exhilarating experience. Note: If you’d prefer to venture down to the beach, this can be arranged with your guide beforehand but be aware, due to the extra time needed, you will not be able to see the other attractions visited by the tour.

While in the Freycinet National Park, we will visit a variety of must-see sites. Cape Tourville offers cliff-top views over the Tasman Sea, where you can see marine wildlife during migration seasons, like seals and whales. A steep but manageable walk to the tucked away Sleepy Bay promises unique rock formations and abundant kelp forests in brilliant turquoise water. HoneymoonBay is a favourite picnic spot and a great place to take a dip in the Pacific if you’re so daring. Friendly Beaches, a stretch of pristine white sandy beach, is a popular surfer and fishermen destination and provides that clean ocean breeze.

If fresh seafood is something you fancy, we stop at Devils Corner Winery where the Freycinet Marine Farm have an outlet. Here you can indulge in an array of local seafood, wood fired pizza and wine, while enjoying spectacular views of the Hazards and Great Oyster Bay. Kate’s Berry Farm in Swansea is a sweet stop for locally made berry treats including ice cream, chocolates and jam. Reflect on your day’s adventures over a coffee while enjoying more spectacular views of the Freycinet Peninsula from this hillside location.

Your tour will visit the historic town of Richmond (established 1824). This historic Georgian town showcases Australia’s oldest convict-built bridge still in use and other colonial landmarks. Returning to Hobart via the Coal River Valley, known for wineries and fruit farms, enjoy the undulating hills and quaint roadside scenery of this prosperous valley before a final stop at Rosny Hill Lookout which provides sweeping views of Hobart, the Derwent River and kunanyi, Mount Wellington. Your guide will then drop you back at your accommodation, concluding a memorable day filled with natural beauty, history, and local delights.

Please keep in mind that this tour itinerary is flexible and subject to the pace of the tour on the day and impeding weather conditions.
